Installation of CCTV in Newtown has started this week
The installation of seven new hi-tech CCTV cameras has begun this week in Newtown.
Contractor Baydale Control Systems Ltd has started the installation work on the seven locations, which have been identified through a crime pattern analysis.
Their installation is part of the Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, Dafydd Llywelyn’s key election pledge to reinvest in a public-space CCTV system. Over 120 cameras are being installed in 17 towns across the police force area of Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Powys.
Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn said: “I know Newtown has been crying out for the police-managed CCTV system to be installed and I am delighted that work has begun there. A project of this nature is very intricate and complex. The CCTV Project Team is working hard to keep the project moving along as swiftly as possible. I hope residents of Newtown will reap the benefits of the new infrastructure upon its completion.”
Powys Commander Superintendent Jon Cummins said: “Having the seven cameras for Newtown installed and recording is great news for North Powys. They will assist with: policing of the local area; potentially help safeguard vulnerable people; deter crime and provide evidence for any criminal proceedings.”
