Dyfed-Powys PCC Holds First-Ever Select Committee to Strengthen Local Policing Scrutiny

Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn has hosted the regions first-ever Select Committee, a new initiative to strengthen public scrutiny, transparency and accountability in policing.
Bringing together a diverse panel of representatives from across the Dyfed-Powys area, the Select Committee will provide independent oversight of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s work and the delivery of the new 2025-2029 Police and Crime Plan. The Select Committee showcases the PCC’s leadership and convening power, bringing people together to tackle shared challenges and make a real difference across Dyfed-Powys towns and communities. A key focus is on diversionary practices and early interventions for young people, helping to prevent harm before it happens and improve long-term outcomes.
Chaired by experienced governance professionals, the Select Committee Hearing will hear evidence on key topics relating to policing and community safety. The first session explored how the PCC is delivering on his priority to ‘Support Victims and Reduce Harm’, with a particular focus on victim support services, safeguarding and partnership working.
Commissioner Llywelyn said:
“I am proud to introduce the new model of scrutiny for the Dyfed-Powys area. The Select Committee will provide a valuable platform for challenge, reflection, and transparency, ensuring that the decision made in the interests of our communities are subject to independent and diverse scrutiny.
I look forward to hearing the views of the Committee and exploring how we can continue to deliver meaningful progress, particularly in supporting victims and reducing harm.”
As part of the wider scrutiny process, the Commissioner has also launched two public engagement opportunities:
- An Open Call for Evidence, inviting individuals, organisations and professionals to share their insights and experiences on the theme of Supporting Victims and Reducing Harm. Submissions can be made by email or post. Full details are available on our website.
- A short online survey for 18–25-year-olds, aimed at gathering views from young adults on the support available for victims in the Dyfed-Powys area. https://forms.office.com/e/5ygtXxtUry?origin=lprLinkwo
