Claire Bryant, Head of Strategy and Policy for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, has been awarded Gold Allyship status by the Wales LGBTQ+ Police Network. This is the highest level of recognition given to individuals who actively and visibly support LGBTQ+ inclusion in policing.

Claire will be formally recognised at the Network’s Annual General Meeting on 27 June, alongside four Dyfed Powys Police colleagues who have also achieved Gold Allyship. All have progressed through the Bronze and Silver levels, which acknowledge growing levels of engagement, leadership and advocacy.

The Gold award is reserved for those who consistently go above and beyond to challenge discrimination, champion inclusion, and lead by example across their organisation.

Reflecting on her award, Claire said:

“I am a firm believer that we should be able to be our authentic selves in every aspect of our lives. When we feel we can do this, we’ll be the best we can be. I used to think that being personally accepting and open, having gay friends, was enough – it’s not. It still shocks me how much prejudice colleagues and friends continue to experience.”

The Wales LGBTQ+ Police Network’s Allyship Programme encourages individuals to pledge their support through three levels of recognition. Bronze acknowledges personal commitment, Silver recognises active participation in events and initiatives, and Gold is awarded to those who help drive cultural change, influence policy and support others to grow in confidence and understanding.

Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn said:

“I am incredibly proud of Claire and all Dyfed Powys colleagues who have reached Gold Allyship. Their dedication to creating an inclusive policing environment is something we can all be inspired by. True allyship requires action, and this recognition shows how seriously they have taken that commitment.”

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner continues to support inclusive leadership and cultural change throughout the Dyfed Powys policing area, helping ensure that everyone feels safe, valued and respected.
