Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn has today launched his annual consultation asking residents across the Dyfed-Powys area to share their views on next year’s policing budget and council tax precept.

Each year, the Commissioner must decide how much funding to raise locally through the police precept- the part of your council tax that helps to pay for policing in the Dyfed-Powys area. Around half of Dyfed-Powys Police’s budget comes from the UK Government, with the rest raised locally through council tax.

Commissioner Llywelyn said: “Setting the right level of precept is always a careful balance between maintaining vital policing services and recognising the financial pressures households face. Your feedback helps me make sure local priorities and community need are properly reflected in next year’s budget.”

The Commissioner is considering several options for how the 2026-2027 precept could be set and wants to understand how local people feel about the impact of potential changes. Even a small increase can make a difference to keeping officers visible, responding to calls, and investing in crime prevention and technology that keeps communities safe.

Residents can complete the short online survey here: or by scanning the QR code. The consultation will run from Monday, 24 November 2025 until January 5, 2026.

All responses will help inform the Commissioner’s final proposal to the Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Panel early next year.

Commissioner Llywelyn added:
“Your views really do count. This consultation is your opportunity to influence how policing is funded locally and to help us plan for the future together. “
