Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn has launched a range of volunteer schemes during his time as Commissioner of the Dyfed-Powys area. These volunteer schemes aim to analyse and scrutinise the work of Dyfed-Powys Police to ensure the highest quality service is offered to the public. The volunteer schemes promote accountability and transparency in policing.

Independent Custody Visitors: Interested in the criminal justice system? Visit police custody areas to check on the wellbeing of detainees and to ensure that their rights are upheld.

Animal Welfare: If you have a passion for animals, this is the scheme for you. Volunteers visit dog handlers and their dogs to look at the conditions and welfare of the Dyfed-Powys dogs.

Youth Ambassadors: Develop skills and create exciting campaigns that raise awareness of young people’s priorities. Ensure young people shape the future of policing.

Quality Assurance Panel: Scrutinise the quality of Police contact with the public through watching real-life footage from officers during their shifts.

Independent Advisory Group: Do you want to safeguard the communities of Dyfed-Powys? This group allows members of the public to advise us on specific issues identified by the police and the OPCC.

Victim – Survivor Engagement Network: If you’d like to have the opportunity to share your views on the services victims receive throughout the criminal justice system, join the Network.

Custody Independent Scrutiny Panel: The overall purpose of the CISP is to ensure that the implementation of police detention and custody procedures in Dyfed Powys are proportionate, lawful, and necessary.

Members of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner have recently been attending Higher Education career and volunteer fairs, to promote the volunteering schemes the OPCC offer and to encourage community participation.

Staff members spoke with the higher education students about how volunteering can develop skills, career paths, and CV enhancement. Volunteering can also strengthen community connections and contribute positively to the criminal justice system.

Commissioner Llywelyn said:
“A big thank you to the students, and staff, at University Trinity St David University and Aberystwyth University for your time and engaging conversations with members of my Office. I encourage volunteers of any age and background – your voice and opinion matters.”
