A weeklong campaign that runs from October 10 to October 17, provides an opportunity to raise awareness of hate crime, how to report it, how to tackle it and highlight the vital support services available for victims.

Everyone deserves to feel safe. Whether it takes place online or in person, hate crimes have a profound impact on victims, their families and ripples through into communities.

Superintendent Louise Harries said:
“Everyone has the right to live without fear of discrimination and prejudice.

“Sadly, many people are targeted for simply being themselves and any form of hate crime is completely unacceptable.

“During the next week, officers and staff will be taking part in a wide variety of activities in our local communities, educating about hate crime and encouraging reporting.

"We know that a proportion of hate crime and incidents are not reported, we need to understand the issues in our communities and ensure we support those who need it.

“Our engagement is key; we want people living and working in Dyfed-Powys to feel safe and empowered to stand up to hate crime and incidents, know who they can turn to, and understand how their reports truly make a difference.”

Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn said:
“Hate crime can leave people afraid to do everyday things, leave their home, go to work or take part in their community. No one should have to live with that fear.

“The services we commission have a vital role in helping people affected by hate crime access practical and emotional support, understand their options and rebuild their confidence. That support must recognise the person behind each report and the impact on their life.

“Across the Dyfed-Powys area, listening to our communities must shape how we respond to hate. By working together with local organisations and support services, we can challenge prejudice, build confidence in reporting and help ensure that people feel safe, valued and able to be themselves."

You can report hate crime directly to the police.
