Volunteers from the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office and Dyfed-Powys Police come together for a joint training day at Police Headquarters, Carmarthen on the 5th December 2018

Members from the Commissioner’s Independent Custody Visiting Scheme, Animal Welfare Scheme and Quality Assurance Panel, joined with Police Volunteers for a day of information sharing, personal development and networking. It was a busy day for all of the volunteers, with various inputs and break-out sessions.

Dafydd Llywelyn, Police and Crime Commissioner for Dyfed-Powys, opened the event, welcoming the volunteers and expressing his personal gratitude for their commitment and support. He emphasised that the work they do impacts positively on his duty to hold the Chief Constable to account in running an effective police service.

The next input was provided by Dyfed-Powys Police’s Governance Manager, Kerrie Phillips. Kerrie provided the group with a detailed update on how Dyfed-Powys Police is currently performing.

A representative from each volunteer scheme then gave an overview of their role and how their work contributes to the Commissioner’s work.

After an opportunity to network and gather information from a variety of stallholders over lunch, the volunteers were able to choose from a selection of personal development break-out workshops. These included a workshop on assertiveness and good communication skills from Dyfed-Powys Police’s Leadership and Management Trainer, Heather Scanlon; a session on uncouncsious bias from Dyfed-Powys Police’s Equality, Diversity and Welsh Language Manager, Mia Evans, and a debate on tackling illegal drug use with the Commissioner’s Director of Commissioning David Harris.

The Training Day was closed by the new Temporary Deputy Chief Constable, Richard Lewis, who echoed the Commissioner’s thanks for the ongoing support of all of the volunteers.
