Dafydd Llywelyn’s CCTV project features in Westminster debate

On Thursday 11th April, a Westminster Hall debate on the prevention of retail crimes heard about Dafydd Llywelyn’s reinvestment in CCTV across the Dyfed-Powys Police area. This investment is leading the way in the detection and prevention of retail crimes.

Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, Dafydd Llywelyn, said “I am delivering on my promise to reinvest in a modern CCTV infrastructure to improve the safety of towns and contribute to the much needed regeneration of our town centres across the force area.”

Community representatives and business owners have praised the difference the cameras are already making. Lesley Richards, Chair of Ymlaen Llanelli, Llanelli Business Improvement District, whom Mr Llywelyn has recently met with, said: “I have been speaking with businesses in the town centre who have long voiced concerns around anti-social behaviour, and they have seen a real difference since the cameras have been up and running. Ymlaen Llanelli has been pushing for the CCTV cameras for Llanelli town centre for some time, so we were pleased when they were finally reinstalled.”

David Morgan, Deputy Manager of Lidl Milford Haven, said: “The new CCTV camera will benefit the community and hopefully act as a deterrent.”

Mr Llywelyn adds, “I have been informed by Dyfed-Powys Police that access to the high quality footage has resulted in a number of successful detections, which will be used as evidence to secure convictions and bring offenders to justice.”

123 CCTV cameras are being installed in 17 towns throughout the Dyfed-Powys Police force area. Installation is almost complete, with 15 of the 17 towns feeding live images back to Dyfed-Powys Police.
