Dafydd Llywelyn, Police and Crime Commissioner for Dyfed-Powys, has launched a public consultation on police funding for 2018/19.
Local policing is funded from a Home Office grant, as well as contributions from the public via the Council Tax, known as the police precept.
In launching the consultation for the 2018/19 police precept, Dafydd Llywelyn said: “As set out in my Police and Crime Plan, the Precept level for 2017/18 was increased by 6.9%. This equated to a Band D property paying £213.87 per annum, which is the cheapest out of the four Welsh force areas.
“In my plan I also assumed a rise of 5% per annum in subsequent years. This would equate to a Band D property paying £224.56 in 2018/19, an increase of £10.69 for the year or 21p per week.
“Decisions made in recent years have resulted in less money being available to deliver vital services for our communities, and with the continued threats of cuts from central government I firmly believe that the public should have a strong voice in the decision to make changes to the public’s contribution through the Council Tax and that once agreed, the impact is clearly explained.
“I am urging the residents of Dyfed-Powys to voice their opinion on this critical issue to ensure that we as a Police Force can continue to safeguard our communities with the highest standard of service available”.
