PCC Dafydd Llywelyn Holds Community Engagement Day in Newtown
On Thursday, 15th October, Commissioner Llywelyn spent the day in Powys meeting with local councillors, community partners and Independent Custody Visitors as part of his Community Engagement Days which highlight the ongoing commitment of visibility and accessibility across the Dyfed-Powys policing area.
The day began with a meeting with Councillor Jones where the PCC discussed matters that were important to the local area.
Continuing from the councillor meetings, PCC Llywelyn visited, The Game Change Project. Based near Newtown, The Game Change Project provides innovative outdoor learning programmes for young people across Powys. The project supports participants to build confidence, resilience and essential life skills through practical activities, mentoring and vocational training. By helping young people reconnect with education, improve their wellbeing and explore future career opportunities, the project is making a positive difference to communities across Mid Wales.
Commissioner Llywelyn then joined the Independent Custody Visitors to shadow their work during a custody visit at Newtown Custody Suite.
Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) are volunteers from the local community who visit police custody suites in pairs, unannounced, to check on the welfare of detainees and to ensure that their rights are upheld.
The volunteers then report any issues, if any, through a report to the PCC and these are looked at in order to make improvements. Applications are currently open for the ICV scheme, visit our webpage for more information:Dyfed-Powys Police & Crime Commissioner
Commissioner Llywelyn said:
Thank you to everyone who took the time to meet with me today. Being out and about in the community provides a fantastic opportunity to hear from people directly and discuss issues which really matter to members of the community.
