On Tuesday 30 January, Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn was speaking at the launch of a new centre in Llanelli, that aims to provide age-appropriate, racially and culturally sensitive services to communities with multifaceted and complex needs and have been historically marginalised.
The Centre for African Entrepreneurship is a centre that empowers and supports ethnically diverse communities, specifically migrants, through providing a bespoke and person-centred service that meets their individual needs.
The Centre’s head office is based in Swansea and having received funding from the Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, they now have established a base in Llanelli to develop their Pathways to Prosperity project in the area.
Supporting young people from low-income households, those at risk of or involved with the criminal justice system, and migrants, particularly, refugees, and asylum seekers, the project’s overall mission is to empower these individuals to reach their full potential and positively contribute to society.
The project in Llanelli will include interventions focussing on Employability and Entrepreneurial Support, Wellness Club and Confidence Building and Community Engagement. Through these interventions, the project will contribute to creating a safer and more equal region, where harm is prevented and the most vulnerable in society are empowered to thrive.
The project provides specialised support, considering beneficiaries' intersectionality, and empowering them to make informed life choices and realise their ambition. The project strongly aligns with the Police and Crime Plan’s priorities and will work with key delivery partners to realise these objectives.
Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn said; “I am proud to be here today for the opening of The Centre for African Entrepreneurship’s new base in Llanelli. The project that they will be developing in the town and surrounding area will create opportunities for individuals to thrive, contribute positively, and shape a more equal society. The funding that was provided through my Office has supported the Centre to establish this new base, and it reflects our commitment and dedication to respond to local needs and empower diverse communities.”
The Centre for African Entrepreneurship Chief of Staff Kim Mamhende said; "Today marks a significant milestone for us. We're absolutely thrilled to expand our services to Llanelli, building upon our established success in Swansea.
“Our core mission is to empower those from disadvantaged communities, enabling them to be economically active, thrive, and fully contribute to society, through providing holistic services.
“We extend our utmost gratitude to the Police and Crime Commissioner for supporting our work, and we look forward to making a positive impact."
