Police Liaison Unit – APCC Wales Policy Manager

Grade: PO3 - Full time position
Salary: £38,376 rising to £41,718
Based at: Agile/Flexible with base at Welsh Government, Cathays Park, Cardiff
Duration: 18 Month secondment with potential for extension
Vetting level: CTC

Closing date: Friday 4th March 2022

An exciting opportunity has arisen to support the work of the four Police and Crime Commissioners in Wales in their engagement with the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC). This is a jointly funded post with the APCC, recognising the importance attached to this role. The post will be located within the Police Liaison Unit (PLU), reporting to the Head of Unit with a formal link to the APCC’s Director of Strategy.

The PLU works on behalf of Policing in Wales, representing both Chief Constables and Commissioners, in their interaction with all departments of Welsh Government. This new position will directly support Commissioners by ensuring that the unique Welsh context and the relationship between devolved and non-devolved partners is fully understood by the APCC and other partners.

The Person Specification gives a greater understanding of the requirements of the role, however this post requires someone with experience in policy development and management and is keenly aware of the political landscape within which policing operates. The successful candidate will be required to engage regularly with the Commissioners, their deputies and executive teams to support their work at the local, regional and national level. Detailed and ongoing engagement will also be required with a range of partners and stakeholders from across the criminal justice landscape and beyond.

The role is dynamic and varied and there may be occasions when you will be required to attend meetings across Wales. Given the nature of the work undertaken, the post demands the highest standards of confidentiality and professional behaviour.

The requirements of this role can be met through agile/flexible working although the PLU does have an office situated within the Welsh Government Buildings in Cathays Park, Cardiff. There will be a requirement for occasional travel to the APCC offices in London to conduct business required.

To apply please email a copy of your CV accompanied by an expression of interest, outlining why you are applying for the role and what experience and qualities you would bring to it (No more than 2 A4 sides, font size 10) to:
