The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) election will take place on 2 May 2024

During the Police and Crime Commissioner pre-election period, leading up to the May 2nd vote, there are limits on the communications that can be published to ensure a fair and unbiased election process.

This section will provide factual guidance on the elections without promoting any particular viewpoint or candidate.

The role of the PCC is to oversee the police force in Dyfed Powys and ensure community needs are met as effectively as possible.

The Commissioner has four main duties, which are to:

  • Set out the priorities for policing in Dyfed-Powys
  • Decide the budget for Dyfed-Powys Police
  • Hold the Chief Constable to account, and to
  • Listen and respond to your views on policing

The election process starts with candidates putting themselves forward for the role. The candidates then campaign in the weeks leading up to the election day. You can find information about the candidates in the election by following this link: https://choosemypcc.org.uk/

On 2 May 2024, voters can head to polling stations to cast their ballot for their preferred PCC candidate. After polls close, ballots are counted and verified and the candidate with the most votes wins the election.

Once elected, the incoming PCC will be officially named and sworn in, ready to take office and serve a 4-year term shaping policing priorities. They will then begin forming, consulting and then implementing their Police and Crime Plan after the election.
